Mayor Davis Holds Press Conference Regarding Finance Department Changes and City Council Accusations
The City of Prichard held a press conference Monday, June 8, 2026 to provide an update on the City’s financial operations, recent state audit findings, the Finance Department personnel transition, and ongoing corrective actions.
Mayor Carletta Davis clarified that the Mayor’s Office has not withheld financial information from the City Council. She explained that monthly financial reports must be generated by the Finance Department, and when those reports were not available, the Administration provided other financial documentation, including bank statements and check registries.
The Mayor stated that the Finance Department transition was not connected to the City Council’s investigation, but followed ongoing operational concerns, repeated requests for information, and state audit findings identifying weaknesses in financial procedures, documentation, reporting practices, internal controls, and contract processes.
Mayor Davis also emphasized that the administration welcomes legitimate oversight and supports a broader review of City finances, including the past five years, to give residents a clearer picture of the City’s financial position.
The City remains committed to transparency, accountability, protecting taxpayer dollars, and strengthening internal operations.
